My Great Grandfather Adelbert Lawrence Fryberger was
born March 30, 1866 in Fairfield, Iowa moving to Kansas while a young boy.
Adelbert married Alice Anderson on August 28, 1888 in Soldier, Kansas and
they had 6 children: Lawrence (Shorty), Mary Margaret, Cloyd, Floyd,
William Esli, and George Franklin all born in Kansas. He was a blacksmith
and farmer in Kansas. Raised sugar beets and mules in Colorado and moved
to Canada when the Canadian Pacific Railroad opened their New irrigation
system. He returned to Colorado as a salesman for CPR and took a trainload
of settlers to Bassano Alberta in 1914. His settlement was known as Gem
Colony. In 1926 they moved to Charlo, Montana were they lived out the rest
of their lives.
Adelberts parents were: John and Margaret (Bonewitz) Fryberger. John
was born in 1825 Berks Co, Pennsylvania and Margaret was born in 1830
Ohio. They married in 1847 Ohio and moved to Indiana, Iowa and then
finally to Kansas. They had 11 children: John Bonewitz, George Perry,
Franklin P, William E, Jacob O, Mary Margaret, baby - name unknown, Daniel
O, Adelbert Lawrence, and Orvin E, Charles E.
John’s parents were: Johan Jacob Freyberger born in 1782 Berks Co,
Pennsylvania and Elizabeth Althouse born in 1786 Berks Co, Pennsylvania.
They married in 1807 Reading, Berks Co, Pennsylvania and had 4
children: Daniel, Caroline, Sarah and John
Johan Jacob’s parents were: Jacob Freyberger born in 1733 Germany
and Anna Margaret Fuchs born in 1747 Berks Co, Pennsylvania. They married
in 1771 Stouchsburg, Berks Co., Pennsylvania and had 8 children: Maria
Margaret, Maria Magdalena, Eva, Johan Jacob, Philip, Susanna, Christiana,
Johan George
Jacob came to America on the Ship Peggy Oct 16, 1754, James Abercrombie
Captain, he located in the Bern Twp, Pennsylvania. He served in Capt.
Jacob Soder's Fifth Co. in the Revoultionary War, being one of two court
martial men of the County. Court martial man was a term of honor and not
the connotation it has in modern times.
