  Maria Grigsby Rutherford was born January 27, 1850 in Guernsey County Ohio, moving with her parents two years later to Polk County Iowa.  She lived with her parents there until February 27, 1870, when she was married to Raffield Rutherford.
  They lived a number of years in Polk County, when they moved to Kansas where they stayed but a short while, moving back to Polk County, Iowa.  They resided there again a number of years and in March, 1906, they moved to Hettinger County, N.D. where she resided until her death August 25, 1921.
  Her husband Mr. Raffield Rutherford passed away on November 16, 1918.
  To this union there were born ten children of whom seven survive to mourn her loss;  Mrs. Mary Gray, Regent, N.D. ;John Rutherford, Rowley Station, Alberta, Canada;  Mrs. Ora Waldorf, Clemention, Minnesota;  Mrs. Josi Vermule, Lake City, Iowa;  William Rutherford, Regent, N.D.;  Mrs. Jennie A. Graeber, of Des Moines, Iowa;  Jay Rutherford of Regent N.D.;  Bertha, Warren and Lillian passed on before.
  She is also survived by six brothers and three sisters, Daniel Grigsby of Ankeny, Iowa;  Mrs. Ora Bolle, Dave Grigsby, Mrs. John McIntire, Neal Grigsby, John Grigsby, of Madrid, Iowa;  Mrs. Jennie Moench of Rushville, Illinois;  Ottis Grigsby of Granger, Iowa, and eight brothers and sisters who passed on before.
  Thirty-four granchildren and fourteen great grandchildren have blessed this union.
  Mrs. Rutherford was a member of the Congregational Church, a good Christian mother and neighbor and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
  Funeral services were held at the home in Madison Township on Thursday afternoon.  Dr. Ashley officiating, interment being made in the cemetery near by where her husband's body is at rest.
  The bereaved family wishes us to thank all those who have shown such kindness to them in their time of sorrow.  And also to those who donated the flowers.  Manifestations of love at such a time are greatly appreciated.
